If you haven’t been living under a rock for the past couple of years then you probably already know what TikTok is or at least heard of it. Tiktok has been around since 2012 but only recently became popular over the past few years, blowing up gaining 1 billion monthly active users worldwide. And no, that is not a typo I really mean BILLION!

TikTok is a video-sharing social media platform that allows users to publish up to 60-second clips on any topic they like. These clips range from hilarious cat videos to commentary and analysis of global events, with the former likely to attract the most attention.

This is excellent news for your company. The For You Page allows businesses to access a global audience with its outstanding and clever advertising. You don’t need thousands of followers. TikTok’s technology will take care of the rest if you have really compelling material.

Why is TikTok good for Advertising?

Apart from having first-hand experience with the platform, I had the same question so I dove in and did some research so you don’t have to. You’re welcome!

TikTok now provides a business account as well as an advertising management tool. When used together, they provide an advertising experience comparable to that of Facebook Business Manager. With these capabilities, businesses have access to data and statistics that the average TikTok user does not have, as well as the opportunity to create sponsored ad campaigns.

So, is it worthwhile to setup a TikTok business account? A significant advantage of advertising on TikTok is that its user base is extremely open to businesses who enter with innovative, disruptive campaigns that capture attention. This is because the majority of TikTok users are more positive about a brand after seeing it on TikTok and actively embrace the platform’s innovative and original ads.

TikTok has also just added a marketplace where users can purchase products or services directly from the app, offering a similar experience to Facebook Market Place but much more targeted toward commercial usage. This is best for companies who might not have a website or who do not want to build a separate landing page for each product they advertise. It is also excellent to A/B test new products to determine if the TikTok community and your target audience are interested in purchasing the product, giving you a clearer sense of whether or not to develop a landing page for that specific product, saving you a significant amount of time.

TikTok is best for eCommerce & Product based businesses as it is a heavy B2C social platform. I personally do not recommend advertising business services on TikTok unless it’s something Millenials and GenZ would really be interested in which we can discuss in a quick 15-minute demo call.

Why should I choose TikTok over other platforms?

I’ve been hyping up TikTok’s advertising but why should you choose it over Facebook & Instagram? 

Well like all platforms it has its advantages and disadvantages.

Advantages

  • Lower CPC (Cost per click)
  • More daily users
  • Accurate data and conversion tracking
  • Collaborating with influencers

Disadvantages

  • Audience Targeting is not as accurate
  • Only good for a Millenial & GenZ audience
  • B2B advertising is extremely hard
  • Content format limitations (No stories or different video resolutions)
